Lists of articles and media
Article and media lists
This is a system module for inserting an item into the site structure tree where articles (or media galleries) will be created and grouped in a list, which can be logically combined by theme, purpose, or company/organization goal.
Basic module functionality
Insertion, management in the structure tree, etc.
Inserted by administrators into the site tree through the creation menu in the site structure item or by selecting “Create sub-item” in the contextual structure tree management menu (see).
Can be inserted into any branch of the site tree.
The number of insertions is not limited.
Each insertion has its own settings and content independent of other insertions.
Module management and other functionality
In the settings of the inserted article and media list module (accessible from the context menu), you can:
Enter the menu item name.
Select the parent item, i.e., the branch where the current module is located.
Enter a heading. The heading is visible to visitors when they enter the article list. If no heading is entered, the menu item name is displayed to visitors instead of the heading (see above).
Enter an alternative name for creating addresses. If entered, it will be used instead of the one generated from the menu item name.
Enter a CMS name/comment. It will be visible as a small blue marker on the item in the menu tree branches.
Specify the number of articles on the list page. The default choice is 9999, i.e., the number of articles is almost unlimited. If a smaller number is chosen, e.g., 10, pagination will appear in the article lists and 10 articles will be displayed per page.
Option to choose whether to display the article date in the lists.
Option to skip the article list if there is only 1 article in the list. In this case, clicking on the module in the structure menu will not open the list, but will go directly to the single article.
Option to choose article pagination not by the number of pages but by the year of article creation.
Option to choose whether the navigation at the bottom of the article will be displayed inside the article: Previous article | To the list | Next article.
Sort articles by date. This setting will sort the existing articles by date, not by the order in the list.
Ability to enter additional SEO fields:
Additional browser window title.
Short description.
Keywords.
In the article list of the inserted article and media list module, you can:
See a list of created articles, where the top entry is the first article in the list, this article is visible on the site as the first article (in the settings you can also choose to display by date, not by order).
Above the list is visible:
Link to create a new article - “New article”.
Link to the installation settings of this module - “Settings”.
Link to the general site structure tree - “Structure”.
Option to enable sorting by article date - “Sort articles by date”.
Preview link leading to the article list on the site (opens in a new window).
The list entry shows:
Article image thumbnail if the article has an assigned image (see below - article editing).
Title and summary (if a summary is entered).
Article date and time.
Article order management - the ability to “move” an article to another position.
Publication (visibility) management - the ability to hide or show a specific article publicly.
Link (icon) leading to the editing of a specific article (see below).
Link (icon) that deletes a specific article.
At the bottom of the list is visible:
Pagination if a sufficient number of articles has been reached for pagination to appear.
Total number of articles in the module.
In the inserted article and media list module's entry (article) editing and, analogously, during the creation of a new article, you can:
Assign the article to a specific date. Without touching this setting, the article creation date is automatically assigned. This is relevant if sorting by date is selected. If the article is assigned to a future date, it will not be displayed automatically until this date.
Assign the parent article module.
Add the article to and assign it a start and end date. If the event (event, exhibition, festival, etc.) takes place on only one day - the start date and end date must match.
Assign from existing or create a new category for the article (if the category functionality is installed).
Option not to display the title photo in the text area. In this case, the display template changes - the gallery, if loaded, is displayed below the text.
Ability to set the expiration date of the article entry. When the specified date is reached, the article will be automatically hidden from the list.
Enter/edit the article title.
Enter/edit the article summary.
Ability to turn an article in the list into a link to another www address (external or internal). By selecting “Use your own link instead of a link to the description” and entering the address in the “Own link” field, you do not need to enter the internal article text. In the list, the article looks like a regular article, but trying to enter it will open the entered address. If the link is to an external source, it is recommended to select “Open link in a new window”.
Enter or edit the main article text or other element that is allowed to be created using RTE (see).
If a new article is being created, the “Save and upload photos” button is visible. After doing this, after the page reloads, gallery management tools appear. They are also visible when editing a previously created article.
In the gallery management tools you can see:
Ability to upload photos from the administrator's computer (you can select and upload several). Photos have restrictions. The photo size (“weight” in MB) must be less than 10MB, resolution up to 6 mega-pixels. It is recommended to upload JPG or PNG files, ~3 mega-pixels, with a size of up to 500kb.
Add video (Youtube iframe/embed, Vimeo iframe/embed).
Add a map (Google Maps iframe/embed).
Add audio from a source that provides iframe/embed functionality, e.g., soundcloud.com.
Add another plugin using iframe/embed.
Depending on the type of media uploaded, in the gallery entry list, you can:
See a photo thumbnail (applies only to photos).
Enter/edit the title that will be visible to the visitor when the media element is enlarged.
Enter/edit the link that will open when the gallery thumbnail is clicked (for photos only).
Enter/edit the iframe/embed code if the element being added is not a photo.
View the media by clicking the preview icon.
Replace a specific photo in the list with another one (for photos only).
Delete a media element.
Ability to enter additional SEO fields:.
Additional browser window title.
Short description.
Keywords.
Using the article copying tool, copy the article to another “Article and media lists” module inserted in the structure tree. The copied article will become a separate entry and will be managed independently of the original. This functionality becomes available only if the article has already been saved.
Module operation on the frontend side (what website visitors see)
The article and media list module can be used in various ways, for various purposes, and with various settings, so there can be many variations of how it will be displayed on the website.
The article and media list module is visible to visitors and is placed where the site administrators have assigned or inserted it in the site structure. By clicking on such a menu item, visitors see a list of entries (articles or media galleries).
Articles in the list do not automatically get into the structure (menu) tree, but, if necessary, a module can be used for this.
Articles (entries) can have their own identification marks (icon or colors) if the entry is assigned to the event/event calendar.
Article (entry) lists can have pagination, its settings are managed by administrators (see above).
Additional information and recommendations
The “media lists” (photo galleries, etc.) functionality of the article and media list module is virtual. This means that any article can be turned into a photo or video (Youtube, Vimeo) gallery. The article text may not be written, only media is uploaded. If there are many such articles, the entire installed module can be safely called “Media Galleries”.
The first photo uploaded to the photo gallery will be the title photo. It will be displayed in lists, it will be displayed as a large photo next to the text, unless the setting “Do not display the photo in the internal text” is selected.
After adjusting the article texts, settings, and media gallery content - it is necessary to save so that all changes are recorded.
Advanced functionality (installed individually)
In the list, a filter by year.
Article categories, this is a functionality that allows you to categorize existing articles by topic, this functionality can be called a filter. For visitors who have entered the article list page, a category-topic navigation is visible above the article list. For example, news can be divided into “general news”, “press releases”, and “media galleries”.
Option to choose whether to display the category navigation above the article list if the category functionality is enabled.
The article's publication/last update date is displayed at the bottom of the content. This applies not only to the article module, e.g., for specific articles and forms or products, but not for layers.
Displaying an article in other menu items (article lists), when an article created in one list is also displayed in others. The article (original-source) is created in one list, but a link to it is placed in another list and it looks as if it were an entry in that other list. When trying to access it, you go to the original article (in the original list).
Ability to use another article's media gallery.
Related articles. Ability to mark related articles from other “Article and media lists” informational type menu items. The relationship becomes mutual. The article display shows related “sections” and related article lists. Only relevant events are shown with related items.
Two-level “tags”. In the current site, this is a limited “Cycles” functionality.
Ability to assign an article to one or more tags.
Tags are created and described in advance (title, short description, photo).
Tags are global for all articles in the article modules, e.g., you can assign both a news article and an education article.
Ability to create a menu item(s) “tag list” and select one of the existing tags. When a visitor enters such a menu item, a list of child tags or assigned articles would be displayed (‘Cycles’ in the current site).
Events, excursions, education (thematic excursions).
Registration functionality remains in the old system.
When placing an article in the calendar, the following functionality appears:
Checkbox “Event, Excursion, Education”.
Radio button Registration form/External link.
If a form is selected - we show a choice between existing forms.
If a link is selected - it is allowed to enter, for example, a unique address from the old CMS (registration system).
Selection “Type” (Registration, Sale) on which the design depends.
Fields for start time, end time with hour and minute accuracy.
Checkbox registration stage completed and a field to enter a word, e.g., (Sold out) intended to manually disable registration/purchase.
There will be no feedback with quota usage, registration can only be stopped manually or when the specified deadline is reached.
Truncation of long article texts.
Ability to enter additional texts above and below the bottom of the article list.
Publish/Unpublish logic. By default, an article is displayed in the list immediately after saving. The logic is changed so that after saving, the article does not appear in the list until “Show” is clicked. The unpublished article is visible via a link so that its appearance can be checked.
Article validity that does not hide the article (last year's events) (the exhibition has its own validity period, but is not disabled). A new field “Relevant until” is created (next to the button to copy the event end date).
Article additional fields (similar to the product template). This functionality will allow you to create sets of fields and apply them to articles, the system will allow you to enter values and display them with the article. Possible field types: string, long text, date, date and time, selection from a list.
